| Doctrinal Summary of First Baptist Church of Oceanside | ||
|---|---|---|
| Section 1. We believe that the Bible is God’s infallible Word, written by men who were divinely and uniquely inspired, and that it is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice. We affirm our belief in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Scriptures in their original autographs. (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21) Section 2. We believe in God the Father, Creator of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. Genesis 1:1; Acts 15:18; Romans 11:33. Section 3. We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son born of a virgin, sinless in His life, who atoned for the sins of the world by His death on the cross. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His High Priestly Intercession for His people, and His personal, visible, imminent, premillennial return to the world according to His promise. John 3:16; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 53:6; John 1:29; II Corinthians 5:21; Acts 1:11; Titus 2:13; I Corinthians 15:51-53; I Thessalonians 4:13-18. Section 4. We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort, and seal forever those who believe in Jesus Christ. John 16:7-11; John 14:16-17; Titus 3:5; I Peter 1:2; Ephesians 1:13-14. A person is baptized once by the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation and thus is placed into the body of Christ. (I Corinthians 12:13). Each believer is commanded and, therefore encouraged to walk by the power of the Holy Spirit, daily yielding to Him and endeavoring to display the fruit of the Spirit, rather than the deeds of the flesh. (Ephesians 5:18-21; Galatians 5:16-26) Section 5. We believe that all men are sinners by nature and by choice, but that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. We believe that faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ alone is sufficient alone for forgiveness and eternal life. John 6:47; I John 5:11-13; Ephesians 2:8,9. Section 6. We believe that the local church is composed of regenerated, immersed believers, voluntarily united together for the purpose of the worship of God, the fellowship of believers, and proclamation of the Gospel of Christ throughout the world. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-42. |
